During circumcision, Dr. Lopez and her team remove the foreskin on the tip of your baby’s penis. It’s a common procedure in the United States and other parts of the world but is entirely optional.
The team at Dr. Lopez’s office makes circumcision very affordable and offers the service for newborn babies up to three weeks old. For babies older than one week old, circumcision is slightly more expensive.
While circumcision isn’t medically necessary, many people choose it because of the following benefits:
In addition to the numerous health benefits associated with circumcision, some people prefer the appearance of penises that are circumcised.
Dr. Lopez reviews the pros and cons of the procedure with you ahead of time. There are few risks associated with circumcision in newborns.
Dr. Lopez applies a topical anesthetic to your baby’s penis to numb the area so they don’t feel any discomfort. She attaches a Gomco to the penis to remove the foreskin.
The procedure is fast and painless, taking about 10 minutes to complete. Dr. Lopez applies special ointment to the penis and may wrap it with gauze.
After circumcision, it takes about 10 days for your baby’s penis to heal. The tip might be a little sore, swollen, red, or bruised. You can gently wash the area while it heals. Change bandages as instructed by Dr. Lopez and apply petroleum jelly to the tip of your baby’s penis.
If your baby receives a Gomco penis ring after circumcision, it eventually falls off on its own after about a week.
Complications associated with circumcision are rare, but call Dr. Lopez and her team if you notice lack of urination within 12 hours, persistent bleeding, foul-smelling drainage, or a Gomco that’s still in place after two weeks.
If you’d like to get your baby circumcised, you can trust Dr. Lopez and her experienced team. Schedule a circumcision appointment over the phone or online today.
